3D printed model!

I got it yesterday and I ABSOLUTELY loved it. Although details like hose, side mirror, ladder, water tank handle and handle couldn't be on the car because it was too small and complicate to printed in 3D.
Also there is a big hole on the seat. I don't know why but I guess some polygons were not properly carculated through netfabb system. What a shame, but I still love my fire engine. I am going to paint it with my nail polish. I already have right colours of nail polish for the car and it will look all shiny!

5000 poly and interior

Finished my 5000 poly and waiting for 3d printed model! I was a bit in a hurry because proto type staff  wouldn't work as holiday starts but i managed to finish the model. It's not in the below show, but I also finished the interior of elly. 4864 out of 5000 poly were used.

Interior planning : I was considering what shape of handle would look good on elly, I narrowed them down to 2 types. one was the normal circular handle and the other one was the kind of joystick or bicycle handle shape.  After matching with preloader, the circular one looked much nicer and matching better with car.

side view of the inside.

handle no.1

handle no.2

looks from the seat. circular one looked better!

The last one was the crazy one just came out nowhere in my mind. I was thinking the person who run this car (actually it turned out a tricycle) should work pedal like when you are on the bicycle. haha.
But he/she must be in hurry to run to fire place so it was taken down.

Below images are the 3d interior on maya. whole interior props were 7334 polys.

texturing idea

I was thinking about texturing elly, and decided to have  two key colours which are red and yellow. I was planning to have only red, but bit of yellow can be a point on red. It will look fun and live rather than serious accidental mood.  Below images are the reference.

Also when i looked up pictures of fire engine, i could see many check patterned steel panel inside and outside of the fire trucks.  I guess it is because it wouldn't get caught fire. so I will definitely use it for interior for elly.

I want to texture the exterior as matte shiny red rather than vinyl coated shiny. So I think Phong will be suitable material for that and maybe Blinn will be used more metal shiny part. For the seat cushion texture, Anisotropic will be nice for leather texture but I'm not sure make it as leather or fabric material. If I will go for fabric seat, then I will use Lambert.

+ Dashboard

fire engines' panel have many buttons, switches and stuff, but I particulary like the preloader in the dashboards. I already made the model of preloader and can not wait to texture it.

2500 poly of Elly is here!

it was developed version of 500poly. Now it has hose pipe which is THE MOST IMPORTANT feature of Elly and side mirrors and head lights. It gets much more roundy compare to 500 model. 2450 out of 2500 poly were used. Now i need to plan details of interior..

Planning 500poly of elephant fire engine (Elly)

As the title of this post, I named my fire engine as Elly. It is just because it will look like an elephant.

I need to make 3 different poly object for LOD(Level of Detail). So I was planing how to make 500poly of Elly first. The thing is my Elly has many props (i.e, hose, ladder and big handle for water tank) outside the car because it is basically fire engine, so it was hard to make all of them in 500poly. So I decided to make car shape first for 500poly model and add props later in 2500 and 5000 poly models.

numbers around the car shows planning the number of subdivisions

And voila, here is 500 poly of Elly. They look a bit shiny because i set the materials and lights in the scene. It will look dull at this time but it will be so cute when it has more polys! My elly's key feature is roundy shape but I can't feel it yet. 500 out of 500 poly were used.

Tricycles

I looked up tricycles to support my design. As a result, I guessed most tricycles are used for short journey or not many people / loads. That was exactly what I thought about my elephant fire engine. What surprising me was some of tricycle's front seat design was very similar to my design.

+
When I went to copenhagen last thursday, I found interesting design of tricycle.
Normally space for loads is back of the front seat, but it has big space in front of handle.
It was interesting because it looks  combined with pram and bicycle.

Deconstructivism

As I was thinking about concept of "chopshop", suddenly it came into my mind that concept of chopshop is similar to Deconstruction.  Deconstruction is basically an approach introduced by french philosopher Jacques Derrida. It tries to demonstrate that any text is not a discrete whole but contains several irreconcilable and contradictory meanings. (Wiki) It influenced on many area beyond the philosophy like architecture and fashion. Those buildings and clothes, which is  influenced by deconstruction, approach to aesthetic point of view on the objects rather than practicality. I found that understanding deconstructivism can help me out to do my chopshop project.

Buildings designed by deconstructivism architect Frank Gehry

Ray and Maria Stata centre in MIT

The funny thing about this building is the students of MIT don't like this building much. Because when it is raining, the design can't drain properly so some part of building get leaks. Should design be focused on function or design itself?

Dutch Insurance company (Dancing Building / Fred and Ginger)

Cloths designed by Martin Margiela

Cloths made with gloves and pieces of fur. I think these clothes and the chopshop project are in the same context which they are made by parts of other objects.

Cloths designed by Hussein Chalayan

He designs very constructive cloths even they don't have any function as real life clothes, such as LED dress and table skirt. However, in terms of combining two or more different item into a cloths, the idea inspired me for this chopshop project.
